MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship in Reading architecture through data: new paradigms for interpreting digital heritage documentation
The University of Camerino invites expressions of interest from postdoctoral researchers interested in applying for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026 in the field of digital heritage, architectural survey and Building Information Modelling.
This research opportunity is hosted by Prof. Martina Attenni at the School of Architecture and Design and focuses on advanced methodologies for the documentation, modelling and management of architectural and cultural heritage through integrated digital approaches.
Supervisor
Prof. Martina Attenni is Associate Professor at the School of Architecture and Design of the University of Camerino. Her research activity focuses on survey methodologies for the knowledge and documentation of architectural and archaeological heritage, with particular attention to the integration of heterogeneous data, numerical models and BIM processes.
Her work develops at the intersection of architectural representation, digital modelling and heritage documentation, with contributions to national and international research initiatives and scientific dissemination in the field of digital heritage.
Research Group and Facilities
The research is carried out within the School of Architecture and Design in Ascoli Piceno, which provides an interdisciplinary environment combining architectural research, design experimentation and advanced digital methodologies.
The available facilities support research activities related to the documentation and analysis of the built environment, including digital modelling workspaces, point cloud processing tools and software for data integration. The School also offers access to digital fabrication laboratories and research infrastructures that foster collaboration between architecture, engineering and design disciplines, as well as connections with international networks working on cultural heritage documentation and digital modelling.
Research Topic and Project Idea
The project focuses on the development and application of advanced methodologies for the digital documentation and interpretation of cultural heritage, with particular reference to Historic Building Information Modelling.
The research aims to improve the processes of knowledge, representation and management of architectural heritage by integrating survey data, digital models and information systems within coherent and scalable workflows. Particular attention is given to the relationship between data acquisition, modelling processes and the communication of heritage, in order to enhance both scientific understanding and accessibility of cultural assets.
The project builds on ongoing research addressing the optimisation of data integration and the use of digital models for analysing architectural structures and their historical evolution, contributing to the advancement of methodologies for heritage documentation and digital transformation in the field of architecture.
Candidate Profile and Career Development
The position is suited for candidates with a background in architecture, architectural engineering, digital heritage or related disciplines, with an interest in survey methodologies, digital modelling and BIM processes.
During the fellowship, the researcher will have the opportunity to strengthen competences in digital documentation, data integration and advanced modelling techniques, working within an interdisciplinary environment and contributing to the development of innovative approaches for the study and management of cultural heritage.
