Created by DTC president and JAMS mediator Giuseppe De Palo, the series brings together alternative dispute resolution (ADR) specialists and leaders from civil society, academia, business, government, and international organizations. They will engage in discussions on some of the most critical challenges facing society and the planet, where ADR is not just the best, but perhaps the only, way forward.

For the inaugural episode of ResolveTalks, the New York office of JAMS hosts an international delegation of Law Professors and PhD students coordinated by the University of Camerino (Italy). Professor Lucia Ruggeri will kick-off the discussion focusing on the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence policy approach, to show the pitfalls similar approaches face due to the lack of proper ADR mechanisms. Innovative ideas for effective ADR mechanisms will be proposed by Professor Manuel Ignacio Feliu Rey from Carlos III University (Spain).

The episode will then focus on the United Kingdom, recently transfixed by a major scandal involving unjust prosecutions of over 900 people working for the Post Office since 1999. Professor Emeritus Christopher Hodges, Chair of the Government’s Horizon Compensation Advisory Board, has been at the centre of dramatic recent activities, and will speak on how the compensation arrangements have worked, and the issues of trying to help traumatised victims.

Next, DTC Principal Senior Expert Marcela Prieto-Botero explores a moving case study from Colombia, emphasizing the role of civil society in a program where armed groups voluntarily surrendered their weapons.

Professor Andrea Schneider, Director of the Kukin Program in Dispute Resolution at Cardozo Law School, will conclude the episode addressing the fundamental contribution of dispute resolution education, with examples of the dynamic interplay between academia and civil society at large.
